It's Christmas again, you know what that means

Posted by Kolumbo - December 25th, 2020

Happy Holidays Newgrounds!

I did a thing, check it out

Thanks to @Saminat @Noves & my buddy @vertikkaldnb for helping me out with the voices, much appreciated fellas.

Some parts ended up being rushed due to me being dumb and starting late, but hopefully it's all good.

You're unexpectedly active allofa sudden these days Kolumbo! :O

Merry Christmas!

Now with Crackeggs done, I can manage using Newgrounds without thinking how I need to finish it, which is a relief hahahaha
Can't get rid of me!
Merry Christmas CD, hope you had a jolly ol time!

Must feel pretty awesome. :) Have some dues still weighing on me I hope to shake off before the New Year starts too, would be nice to start fresh, and free, and partake in all things without feeling any kind of pressure to do anything particular when you do so!

Merry Christmas again man! :D Thank you! Despite the times it's been pretty good so far!

Get to it, lift that weight off your chest!

Merry christmas again to you as well haha
And strangely, I feel it has been a good year, too, despite the obvious drawbacks.

It was a pleasure my man! Merry Christmas, all!

Right back at ya!

*HYAAAAAARGHAAAA*

Nah man. Too heavy still. Maybe in a few days though. :P

I do feel so too. Don't know if it's just the fact that's it soon over that feels like such a relief - along with it the prospect of brighter days/a New Year/everything getting better again, or if it just never got as bad as it felt like it could get. There's been so much tension and uncertainty but in the end at least personally I feel like I managed things pretty well after all! Same with you?

Pretty much, yeah.
The quarantine period was pretty cool for me, though, had lots of fun playing games and whatnot with friends, which we couldn't really do often because it's tough to get together considering different work and sleep schedules. So I really liked that, unlike most people.
And also getting off my ass and making stuff again probably plays a big role in why I feel the year was good.

How'd you manage your yearly trips?

Could also be that: managing times of somewhat more hardship than usual actually feels pretty accomplishing.

You'd think it was way tougher to get together this year though what with all the other new restrictions. :P But that's cool to hear. Definitely been isolating more over here, family getting on each other's nerves a bit, but it's not all bad. Saving in on travel times a lot. During summer there was way more time to just be out in the sun and walk too, so much usually gets wasted on commuting. You definitely seem pretty productive these days. :)

Well the summer vacation still happened, could nobody stop that, canceled flights or no! But all trips abroad: cancelled. :/ I'm about to start booking some for the new year though, a short trip in April, another in October, hopefully this thing starts going the right way now; they don't start shutting down all borders again...

On the plus plane tickets really haven't increased as much in price as I thought they might! Still affordable. :)

Oh, I meant get together online, play video games n stuff.

I'm glad to hear you managed to do a trip, and since you're planning the next years one - where shall you go?

I've been looking into north Sweden during summer - for the nightless nights - if I were to somehow get to Sweden to experience this, where would you recommend to go specifically?

Ahh that kind! XD Shoulda known!

North. :) No trips abroad for now, just up to our summer place, and to visit a buddy who lives nearby a bit before. It's a 10-12 hour drive if you go by car so hopefully those flights stay strong now... plotting a trip to Gdansk too (Poland) but still feels a bit risky to start booking anything outside the country. If we don't shut our borders maybe they will, or impose some quarantine again, no way to get refunds if so.

Ooh! Well personally I hang out near Överkalix, small but beautiful town, if you really want to get out into the wild without really getting out into the middle of nowhere I'd recommend that. Could show you around if our vacations sync. If you want to get even wilder maybe Kangos - there's a pretty good guesthouse/hotel there, smaller village. If you want sights (but not as much warmth) then: Kiruna, or Jokkmokk, or whatever places you can stay that are near there. If you're into hiking then look up Kungsleden, a long trail that takes you through maybe the best places. The national park Sarek is pretty impressive too. Never been myself though, we usually just farm our land; stay close to home there. :)

The airports you'd probably want to fly to are either Luleå och Kiruna wherever you want to go, Luleå's usually cheapest. Luleå and Kalix aren't bad either if you're not looking to really get too far into nature. And whatever you choose: it's pretty handy to have a car up there.

Oooh Poland. I haven't been personally but I've heard it's very nice, although it got the toughest break when USSR fell - which is a shame.
Take this with a grain of salt, of course, but I'm pretty sure you will be able to go to Poland or any other eastern/almost central European country for that matter. Things seem to be handled a tad bit differently here, in the region.

I will look up Överkalix, since I love small towns and getting out into the wild. Thanks for the recommendation, and I hope that if I manage to come - we end up gettin' a beer or something. Love me some small town in nature vibes, nothing beats it.

Yeah it seems nice. :) I've only been at the Warsaw airport myself, jumping planes to/from Romania. Had a trip booked to Krakow earlier this year but that didn't happen of course. Really cheap tickets to Gdansk though. :) Figure I might as well start there if I start flying around again. Ah they had it tougher than the other Baltic countries? Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia? Read up on their unfortunate histories when I visited earlier but I don't really know how Poland had it...

Hmm, apparently Lithuania currently have it pretty bad though, they've been (supposed) cracking down on tourism too. Earlier this year with the Krakow trip it was Poland that closed their borders first so... I don't know, appreciate the tip but might wait a while just in case. :) The airline's changed their refund policies since my earlier trips, wouldn't be as easy to get money back now.

Nice. :) And yeah that'd be nice, maybe not beer for me but any kind of beverage for sure! We actually had a local brewery too as recently as last year, unfortunately just closed. But anyway just let me know if you start looking at booking something, regarding travel time alignment or housing advice or whatever. And I do wonder if our small towns are small towns compared to your small towns. XD Everything's subjective... hopefully it's the small town smallness you're looking for!

Well, I didn't really clarify what I meant. As Poland wasn't a real part of the USSR but rather an invaded satellite state, during the years of the USSR & during the fall of it, they suffered the most in terms of sanctions and whatnot. Out of real USSR countries, I honestly don't know much about what happened when it fell, so I can't say - I'll have to do some reading.
And yeah, as I said, take the "tip" with a grain of salt.
There's always Macedonia, if nothing else is available :D

Also, no beer for me either hahaha as I stopped drinking 3 years ago, but I figure everyone else drinks so I always say "let's grab a beer" even if it ends with me drinking a coke zero!

I'll look into booking stuff early next year, and if I end up coming - you'll know. Would be great to meet a fellow NGer out in the wild!
As for small towns, I don't really mean it in the actual size of the town - e.g. number of houses, population - I mean in the way of life and the environment compared to cities.

Aha. Well same here, I really don't know enough about the USSR era at all. I guess you guys were pretty involved with the cold war conflicts too? The only power struggle that made it into the history books I was schooled on is really the USSR/US one. The winners write history hmm, so much yet to learn!

Macedonia! :D Man I don't think that's a destination I can get to by plane at all, at least not cheap, if only...

Locally produced cloudberry soda then maybe? :D Haha yeah, first impulse was just go along with the comment, but if you happen to a real beer connoisseur and expect me to be equally into said craft then maybe that'd be a problem! XD Cool.

In the wild indeed! :D Fingers crossed it all comes to be. The small town thing just reminded me of a family friend who came over from the US and was blown away that you could actually pick blueberries right off the ground (technically bilberries, but anyway). Just one of those moments when you realize how different things really are in different parts of the world. Small town style of life's bound to change depending on the country too, but if the universal standard's just: a little calmer and lite freer, than sounds about right. ;)

As far as I know we didn't really participate in the cold war - however, there is an interesting >>>conspiracy theory<<< about something along those lines - there's a documentary about it: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5518022/
Long story short, supposedly Tito sold a >>>fake<<< space program to the USA and then, well, they tore Yugoslavia a new one. Be it fact or fiction, the documentary is really fun - and blends the line between the two really well. Also, Zizek speaks funny so that's always great haha

OH MAN I'm a big soda enthusiast hahaha so definitely! I've no idea what cloudberry is and I refuse to google as to not ruin a potential surprise!

Indeed, country to country/culture to culture it's bound to change, but as you say the universal stuff is always there. Can't even see stars properly when not in small towns. Love me some calmness.

Oooh, gotta add that to my (right now pretty backlog clogged) watchlist... sounds fascinating. :) True or no. Do you think it could be?

This gets better and better! :D Glad I mentioned that too then! I like to try anything I can get my hands on really, collect strange bottles; try to be somewhat of an alternative sweet beverage connoisseur. :P Oh! Hopefully it'll be a good surprise then!

Yeaaah the light pollution seems to make us forget who we really are! How insignificant we really are. Look to the stars for guidance and reminder and all. :) I feel like city people sometimes are really living in a bubble, totally disconnected from the natural order of things, or the sights, the smells, the experiences of it all... if it's not obvious: I love nature. :P Wish I really lived a bit further out but all the jobs are in the cities. Somehow this is where everyone ends up.
